Over the years as a practicing artist, I have made it a ritual practice of always getting rid of things that I deem unnecessary. I guess I am a utilitarian of sorts. In truth, anyone who is a creative always has their tools that they deem necessary, but I can assure there is a closet with all the tools that we all used in years past. With the advent of drawing monitors, scanners, and amazing software, I transitioned from analog to digital and found it freeing in that it only costs electricity and labor. The analog way costs in the sense of art supplies, which can get expensive when you are trying to practice new methods. I will admit changing to digital was a challenge at first due to the learning curve involved with the software available. My Studio I personally use three monitors, one for reference pics, one for a second application such as posemyart, and the third monitor is my drawing monitor Huion Kamvas 22. I have the standard mouse and keyboard but I also use a Nostromo Keypad for hotkeys used in the graphic software. It is important that anything one chooses works well and its comfortable to use. This was the main consideration I had when choosing devices to use. It is of the utmost importance to me that I have little to no distractions when I am working. Distractions equal being pulled out of the flow-state while doing artwork. I find... --- - Published: 2025-12-29 - Modified: 2026-01-11 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/one-offs/diving-into-2026/ - Categories: One Offs - Tags: comic, illustration, one offs Diving into 2026 As we find ourselves diving into 2026 and out of a chaotic 2025 year we need to make sure we go into this year with an open-mind, and preparedness. 2025 provided a lot of lessons on understanding: micro-plastics, toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, processed foods, over medication among other issues. I find it important in having compassion for all who suffer and keeping in mind that we all are going through this kind-of-crazy. I created this illustration with the idea how everyone feels like their in a free-fall. My idea of how to approach these times is to treat the transition from 2025 to 2026 as skydiving instead of being in an out-of-control free-fall. As long as we have packed for the jump everything will work out; if not, a definite chaotic year will be ahead for us all. I produce my artwork with Corel Painter on a Windows 10 system. I find using this software allows me to create in whatever style that I desire. If you would like to know about my studio setup you can read about it in My Studio article. --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/one-offs/cognitive-irony/ - Categories: One Offs - Tags: comic, illustration, one offs Cognitive Irony --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/artwork/the-faerie-rider/ - Categories: Artwork - Tags: comic, concept, illustration The Faerie Rider The Faerie Rider illustration concept was one of many stories that I have had running around in my thoughts for awhile. One of the things that I thought would be really cool would tell stories of faeries in now-a-days time. Dealing with humans, technology, so forth. Later on, I have considered using this character among others in the Teacher comics adding a touch of the whimsical to a science fiction comic that is dealing with real world situations. --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/artwork/relaxing-in-the-library/ - Categories: Artwork - Tags: comic, concept, illustration Relaxing in the Library Teacher and Prudence are relaxing in the library after a long day of adventures. Prudence's mouse friends are sneaking some food while Teacher is busy reading. The artist that Teacher lives with doesn't know half of the things going on in his own house, which makes for fun. The illustration was created before I had decided to make a full comic about Teacher and his adventures. --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/artwork/hunting-party-scout/ - Categories: Artwork - Tags: comic, concept, illustration Hunting Party Scout The hunting party scout was a design I created for a character from the reptilian species in the story about Teacher. In the world creation process I used existing folklore from human society to create a protagonist for the stories. The idea is the reptilians are a slaver species where you are a slave or your food. Traditionally they go out in hunting parties and find prey. Being friends with this species is unheard of. --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/one-offs/happy-holidays/ - Categories: One Offs - Tags: comic, illustration, one offs Happy Holidays Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! I grew up watching Christmas cartoons and one of my favorites was the Dr Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" story. The artwork in it was amazing in its simplicity and execution. The narration, and the Grinch character being voiced by Boris Karloff was genius. This particular animation art style was indicative of Chuck Jones and the studio he was working with. --- - Published: 2025-12-02 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/artwork/memorial-candles/ - Categories: Artwork - Tags: illustration, still life Memorial Candles I created Memorial Candles during a memorial service. The production time was around thirty minutes. I felt that making artwork for the individual out of respect was the best I could do. I felt a painted look was appropriate. Most of my artwork tends towards realism or cartoon styles, so this was a new thing for me to try. --- - Published: 2025-11-30 - Modified: 2025-11-30 - URL: https://outlierillustrations.com/artwork/cherries/ - Categories: Artwork - Tags: fruit, illustration, still life Stages of the artwork is shown below.
